I work in a non-directive manner.
We will start by addressing what it is that is troubling you, or if you
can't pinpoint it, we start with whatever is on your mind.
It might seem awkward to be talking to a stranger, but there are a lot of
benefits to that. You are not
required to worry about my needs, and my responses will be non-judgmental,
interested and non-controlling. You
will be encouraged to let me know if ever I feel otherwise to you. My job will be to create a safe environment, to recognize
your uniqueness and understand your issues.
Therapy usually involves 3 phases:
Initial phase -
identify your issues,
complete my assessment and collaborate with you in establishing your goals and
develop a plan of action. If your
issues are beyond the scope of my expertise, then I will provide you with
referrals to other professionals better suited to your needs.
Middle phase - implementation of the plan, and
may involve homework assignments or outside tasks.
Ending phase - at some point our work together will be finished, hopefully when your goals are met. Or perhaps you will just want to stop, or try a different therapist or different type of intervention.
