Treatment Method

I personally try to match a theory or process to the client’s needs.  An eclectic approach involves both direct and indirect procedures.  I welcome any input you have as to the method of treatment you and I enter.  Some people have had a poor experience in counseling simply because the counselor could not communicate well with the client.  Below is an example of part of the agreement we would enter into if you decided to proceed with counseling.

Counseling Procedures

I will understand and assist you to define the goals and objectives that you wish to accomplish during counseling.

I will discuss with you the interventions and techniques that I feel will assist you in attaining your goals and objectives.

I will discuss with you the benefits and draw backs of confidentiality laws in the state of CT.

I will discuss with you the potential for adverse affects during the counseling process.

I will ask you to complete homework assignments that are designed to help you acquire new or different patterns of behaviors related to your goals.

I may ask you to keep a daily record of thoughts, feelings, and other issues related to your new and old behaviors.

I will with your input monitor your progress and if at any point it becomes clear that you would benefit more by being served by another counseling professional I will provide you with a list of appropriate choices.

I believe that there isn’t just one way or one theory of counseling that works well with all people, because each client is individually unique.
